We currently have one Dutch
Shepherd, referred to as a
hollandse herder,
on the Department. His name is Robby. Robby was born in the Netherlands and
was imported to the United States in June of 2003. Robby is a PH-1 certified
canine through the Royal Dutch Police Dog Association. Robby has been with the
Pulaski County Sheriff's Office since July of 2003. Robby is handled by
Corporal John Rogers. Corporal John Rogers and Robby are available 24 hours a
day/7 days a week.
Robby serves as an
invaluable tool for tracking criminal suspects and locating missing
individuals. Robby is also trained to conduct article searches when suspects
attempt to hide items by throwing them while fleeing from officers.
Robby is a dual-purpose
canine trained in criminal apprehension and narcotics detection. Robby is
certified to locate the odor(s) of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, crack, and
marijuana.
Our K-9 unit is frequently
called upon by our Department as well as other area departments. They
participate in drug searches in area high schools, and numerous public relations
demonstrations.
In addition to their
regular duties, Corporal/K9 Handler John Rogers and K9 Officer Robby undergo
intensive training sessions. K9 Robby is certified on a yearly basis at Vohne
Liche Kennels in Denver, IN.
